Swing Into Spring 2009 - Hillbilys

Once again the members of Voyager Village Property Owner’s Association, and their guests, celebrated the coming of spring with their annual “Swing Into Spring” dinner and dance.  Swing Into Spring is held annually as the beginning of the social season at Voyager when our snowbirds arrive back home.  Even though spring has been a little hesitant to arrive this year, 109 folks at Voyager enjoyed a great evening at the Voyager Village Stables with fine food and the music of DJ Jerry Beth.

This year’s theme for the event was “Hillbillys” highlighting the days of The Beverly Hillbillys, Lil’ Abner, Hee Haw and the like.  Many of the attendees came in character with corncob pipes, bib overalls, beards, straw hats, pigtails and suspenders.  The Voyager Village Stables was decorated with posters of famous and unknown hillbillys and considerable mountain country décor. Winners of the costume contest were Norma Olson and Quint Zimmerman.

Attendees were entertained upon arriving by becoming involved in the feud between the Hatfields and McCoys and with Nona May firing volleys of marshmallows from her double-barreled slingshot.  Friends enjoyed a video of the previous four Swing Into Springs, an opening sing along of “Good Ol’ Mountain Dew” and a shotgun wedding after which they danced the night away.

Andy, Carmen and the kitchen and wait staffs at Voyager prepared and served a superb prime rib dinner.    
 
The Swing Into Spring Committee members for this year’s event were Ken and Norma Olson, Roy and Bonnie Warren and Bob and Nona Vierkant. Assisting the committee were Squeak and Donna Skogen, Elra and Pat Johnson, Lou Pappas, Dave Weise and Paul Olson. 

Next year’s committee is already making preparations for “Wild, Wild West”.  Swing Into Spring 2010 will be May 22 so dust off your boots, oil up your six-shooter, and get ready to celebrate the “Wild, Wild West”.  Remember, there are often problems for the snowbirds receiving the CRIER during the winter, so if you want an email reminder, send a note to bobandnona@centurytel.net and we’ll put you on the list.
